The 2014 Taklimakan Rally kicked off Monday, May 26th, 2014 in China’s northwest Xinjiang's Province in Tacheng City, marking the 10th anniversary of the most grueling off-road endurance race in Asia.
A total of 148 vehicles competed in this year’s event supported by 38 individual teams. In addition, more than 500 supporting vehicles, 6 helicopters and 1,500 race staff members as well as volunteers also participated in the rally.
This is a televised event in China and has become very popular and prestigious much like the Baja 1000 or Dakar Rally. Many of these teams have large corporate sponsorships and supporting technical teams. Arctic Cat participated in this year’s rally for the first time via our newest family member and exclusive distributor for China, Beijing Arctic Power. Beijing Arctic Power entered the contest with three stock Wildcat X models that were race prepared for the event. All vehicles were in fact fresh off the ship just 90 days ago and had very little time to prepare for the rigorous and arduous race.
On the performance of the Wildcats and Team Arctic Power, CEO Joanna Lee stated, "This is our first show in the biggest race event in China. As you can see, Arctic Cat has won a great reputation in this event since our racers sweep 5 championships in total 9 racing stages. Due to the race regulation, we lost the final overall championship, but it doesn't affect the figure of Wildcats in everyone's eyes for its outstanding performance & reliability. Truly exceptional!"
